Need to know: Colour Change!Wednesday, September 7 2016
We LOVE a colour change more then anyone and have been going #mane crazy over celebs swapping their colours with their friends. At fashion week on the Balmain runway we saw Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid swap their signature locks and we couldn’t get enough. But before you decide you can rock dark eyebrows and blonde hair better then a Kardashian or you want to join the dark side like Hadid there are a few things you need to know.
Here are a few things to consider before you go blonde or platinum. This shade of blonde is high impact and on trend, however, it’s a high maintenance hair colour that needs additional TLC.
Not all hair can handle it:
Ask your colourist if blonde or platinum is achievable for you. They’ll need to consider your hair’s condition, texture, length and virgin colour.
It needs A LOT of maintenance:
Maintenance includes a in salon toner every few weeks and a treatment at least once a week. Platinum requires a colour service every four to six weeks to keep it looking fresh.
You’ll need blonde-specific haircare products:
You’ll need to invest in some blonde lovin’ conditioners, treatments and heat protectors for at home use. Original Mineral’s *Conquer Blonde* or *Alchemic Silver* from Davines. These products are designed to conserve the colour while also helping to avoid any unwanted golden tones.
Don’t go too DARK too quick:
Going dark doesn’t mean getting rid of all lightness in the hair, keep some variation- you can always go darker.
Choose the right shade:
Its important to have a conversation with your colourist about whether you should choose a cooler or warmer shade of brunette depending on your skin tone.
Weather you’re going from blonde to brunette, red to brown or anything in between you’ll need to change a few other things too:
1. Come in and talk to our makeup specialist Vanessa, a change of colour might require a change in palette when it comes to your makeup. You may be able to rock that bold red lip you never thought you could.
2. Treat yourself to a at-home treatment every week.
3. Learn to love Olaplex! Olaplex will be your new bff and will help repair the bond of your hair after your colour change.
4.You might need to make this an excuse to buy some new clothes. Changing your hair colour can mean outfits you loved as a blonde just don’t work quite as well with your darker locks.
