ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW TO LOOK AFTER YOUR CURLY HAIR!

In an ideal world, our curls would naturally dry into perfectly undone spirals, sans the frizz. But that’s not always the case, and curls often need an extra bit of loving to get them just right. However, managing curly hair doesn’t need to be as hard as it seems. The difference between fighting with your curls and loving your curls really lies within your hair care routine.

Making friends with moisture is so important. A lack of hydration can cause the hair to become dry and frizzy, leading to split ends as the hair becomes weaker and more brittle. So introducing hydrating products such as moisturiser, serum and oil will help to strengthen, restore and repair hair curl and health. Get the most out of your products by really working them in, just like you would with your facial moisturiser.

To blow dry or not to blow dry?

We say: blowdry! Letting your hair dry naturally won’t create style or shape, and you probably won’t get your body where you want and need it. So try to leave your hair in a towel for as long as possible, then apply products and gently blow-dry with a soft diffuser mitt evenly into the roots, leaving the ends to dry naturally.

Section your hair by lightly scrunching your curls up into the roots and clipping them into place. To scrunch the hair, place your hand palm open at the end of your hair and scrunch up into the roots and scalp.

Depending on how long and how much hair you have, you could use more or fewer sections. For example, if you like more volume and variation, secure many smaller sections. If you like less, you can do this in four sections: two high above the ears, and too low at the back of the head for a more relaxed result.

Once you’ve secured your sections in place, start drying using a blow dryer with a diffuser on medium heat. Start from the bottom sections working up towards the crown, and then around the hairline (where your hair meets your forehead).

For more hold, leave your hair sections in place and lightly dry each one on the ‘cool’ setting. This will set the hair in place and hold for longer.

For a more relaxed look, drop each section down as they dry, and let gravity do its thing!

Curly hair that’s been prepped with the right products shouldn’t need to be washed or redried for 3 to 4 days. Need to revive the curls? Add the extra product or enhance and reshape the curl with a mini curling wand. Choose what pieces need more volume, and what pieces to keep natural to get the perfect level of volume.

Because curls love nourishment its important to not over wash them as this strips them and the scalp of its natural hydrating oils.
